The Parish Meeting is an event where all the electors in the parish may attend, and anyone may suggest an item for discussion, speak, and if necessary, vote. The purpose of the Parish Meeting, which is chaired by the Chairman of the Parish Council is, literally,  to discuss anything relevant to the Parish. In particular, the Parish Council will show how it has spent last year’s Precept and the Meeting can suggest what priorities it would like to see the Parish Council, and all other service providers, address in the forthcoming year.

The Charlton Kings Parish Meeting had been moribund for many years, but, with the creation of the new Parish Hub and the refurbishment of the Stanton Room, the Parish Council wished to restore the Parish Meeting to being the important event that it should be in the calendar of Charlton Kings events.

The Local Government Act 1972, requires the Annual Parish Meeting to be held between 1 March and 1 June each year. Charlton Kings Annual Parish Meeting held on 12 May 2014, agreed that as well as the annual Meeting, it would hold two additional Parish Meetings each year in September or October and January.

The Charlton Kings Parish Meeting replaces the Charlton Kings and Battledown Community Meeting which reflected this role in eight meetings between 2011 and 2014.
