On Sunday 12th November the churches of Charlton Kings will come together to pay tribute to those of Charlton Kings who gave their lives fighting for our freedom.   As has been the tradition for many years, residents will gather around the war memorial to pay their respects.
Gather around the War Memorial at 9.50 am
The service is followed by services at St Mary’s, Sacred Hearts and the Baptist Church.  The ceremony is always very well attended and wreaths are laid by local groups such as the Girl Guides, Scouts,  Air Cadets and  Charlton Kings Club, as well as by the Chair of the Parish Council.  For those of a more secular nature, the gathering is an opportunity to reflect on the price paid by earlier generations.  Although a solemn occasion reminding us of the sacrifice made by our forebears, the sense of a community coming together remembering its past is very real and moving.  The short observance concludes with a bugler playing the Last Post.
