Working to support our community

A Victorian Christmas at Sixways 2023

Please check back later in the year for more information on a Victorian Christmas at Sixways.

The local businesses are looking forward to welcoming residents for late night shopping and singing for the third year running and Charlton Kings Parish Council is pleased to support this community event.

A Victorian Christmas at Sixways 2022

Thank you to everyone who joined us for a Victorian Christmas at Sixways 2022.

The children from Cheltenham Children's Choir sang at Holy Apostles Church due to the rain and had a special visit from Father Christmas, Mrs Christmas and the Elves so that they could stay in the warm!

Many thanks to the Vicar and Staff at Holy Apostles for welcoming the extra visitors to the Church at such short notice.

All of the parents and visitors to the church were very impressed by such big voices coming from such small children. They were thoroughly entertaining, sang beautifully and we hope to see them again next year.

The children from St Edwards School choir sang beautifully and were watched by lots of parents and passer's by helping to get us all into the festive spirit whilst Santa and the Elves gave out chocolates. We are grateful to The TK from CK, The Santalorian and Mando (all characters from Star Wars) who joined us again this year to pose for pictures with local residents and generally bring good cheer to everyone they spoke to. There were high fives, fist bumps and thumbs up all round. Having local residents willing to dress up and give their time, year after year, is one of the many things that helps make these community events special.

The Wednesday's Singing Group rounded of the singing of the evening to perfection, with the audience joining in with the singing on some of the old favourites. Huge thanks to singing leader Louise and all of the singers, many of whom had rushed home from work in order to join us. We hope you'll come back again next year!

The local businesses were all dressed up and welcomed residents for some late-night shopping. Despite the rain (and England playing in the World Cup!) there were still lots of people visiting the shops and the local businesses have asked us to pass on their thanks to everyone who supports them, not just at Christmas but throughout the year.

The shop voted best dressed Christmas window was Mercy in Action Boutique Charity shop with their gold and glittery display. Thank you to everyone who cast a vote on our Facebook page.

The Parish Council is happy to be able to support the local businesses by coordinating and promoting a Victorian Evening at Sixways. We are grateful to Cotswold Bespoke Flooring, Murphy's Dog Grooming Salon and Glenfall School for allowing us to put up the banners advertising the event.

If you have any thoughts about how we could improve for next year, please contact the Community Development Officer on community@charltonkingsparishcouncil.gov.uk

A Victorian Christmas at Sixways 2021

The Victorian Christmas event in 2021, promoted by Charlton Kings Parish Council and supported enthusiastically by the local businesses, saw a large number of people enjoying the festivities.

Quite a few were in Victorian costume, though this was not compulsory, and in fact two stormtroopers also attended from a long time ago and a galaxy far, far away.

The occasion was given its official start by the Mayor, Councillor Steve Harvey, who introduced the Cheltenham Children's Choir to sing carols. Businesses stayed open late, doing a good trade in gifts, food, and drink, Father Christmas was kept busy throughout, and there was a further performance by the St. Edward's School Choir in their garden space next to Sixways Surgery.
