About me
I have lived in Cheltenham for the last 18 years, having grown up around Gloucestershire and Wales. I was a pupil at Balcarras School before going on to GlosCAT for my A levels, then onto Queen Mary in London to study Marine Biology. I moved to Charlton Kings in 2015 with my family and have a daughter who currently attends Charlton Kings Junior School and son at Charlton Kings Pre-school.
I currently work as a Senior Lecturer in Music at the University of Gloucestershire, having started my career in broadcasting and studio work. I am particularly interested in promoting accessibility to music for those with disabilities and promoting the creative work of young people across Gloucestershire. In addition to my academic career, I also work as a musician and have played at a large number of music festivals including Glastonbury.
Alongside my careers I have worked with a range of charities locally and nationally for over 25 years. In 2006 I was named Gloucestershire Young Person of the Year for my work with charity. My voluntary activities since have included youth work at the Axiom, helping to organise fringe programming for Cheltenham Jazz Festival, managing partnership relations for the Wychwood Festival as well as operating as Musical Director for the 2012 Olympic torch event in Cheltenham. From 2012-16 I was elected as a Cheltenham Borough Councillor for St Pauls.
Why I became a Councillor
I have been an active volunteer with charity and community projects since my teens and have always tried to keep part of spare time protected to help others. Now that my children are slightly older, I have some availability to devote to supporting my local community and I look forward to the opportunity to use my skills and experience to help our community thrive and grow.
