North Ward

About me
I grew up in Yorkshire. From the age of 13, I had part-time jobs including working in hotels, a cinema and in local places of worship. I left school after my A levels and joined the Civil Service, working for ten years at the British Library in West Yorkshire. Subsequently, I worked in retail for six years at Mappin & Webb and Ogdens of Harrogate as a silver and jewellery stock keeper. I moved to Charlton Kings in 1993 and re-joined the Civil Service, working at GCHQ until 2019 with a particular focus on "making change happen". My daughter attended St Edward's School from the age of 2 to 18, and my husband was a member of the PTA at the school for many years. Shortly after moving to Charlton Kings, I became involved in the Charlton Park Residents' Association. I have been very actively engaged with its work, which includes championing local issues eg Cox's Meadow and flood alleviation and supporting fundraising for local charities. I have held several roles and have now been its Chair for the last eight years.
Why I became a Councillor
I have been involved in my local community for many years through my work with the Charlton Park Residents' Association. Now that my work at GCHQ has ended, I have more time available and feel that my professional skills and experience enable me to contribute to projects that will benefit Charlton Kings and its residents.
