Charlton Kings Parish Council: Star Council Awards Finalist!

A few weeks ago, we proudly announced that Charlton Kings Parish Council had been named a finalist for the prestigious Star Council Awards by the National Association of Local Councils (NALC)! This recognition highlights our dedication to serving the community and making Charlton Kings an even better place to live.

Who are the finalists for 'Council of the Year'?

Charlton Kings Parish Council is competing alongside three town councils and one other parish council—an incredible achievement! Regardless of the outcome, being recognised among much larger councils with significantly more staff is something we are truly proud of.

The five finalists are:

๐Ÿ”น Great Linford Parish Council, Buckinghamshire & Milton Keynes – Serving 20,000 residents | 7.87 km² | 20 councillors | 15 staff | Band D precept - annually per household: £115.21
๐Ÿ”น Houghton Regis Town Council, Bedfordshire – Serving 20,000 residents | 8.65 km² | 18 councillors | 14 staff | Band D precept - annually per household: £197.82
๐Ÿ”น Oswestry Town Council, Shropshire – Serving 18,000 residents | 8.82 km² | 18 councillors | 10 staff + 12 grounds & facilities staff | Band D precept - annually per household: £102.89
๐Ÿ”น Charlton Kings Parish Council, Gloucestershire – Serving 12,000 residents | 23.5 km² | 12 councillors (+5 vacancies) | 5 part-time staff | Band D precept - annually per household: £48.18

What does this mean for Charlton Kings residents?

This shortlisting acknowledges the hard work of our councillors, staff, and volunteers in delivering meaningful projects, events, and services that benefit our residents.

When will the winners be announced?

The Star Council Awards will conclude with a parliamentary reception at the House of Lords on 25 February 2025, where winners will be announced. Our Deputy Chair, Felicity Parnham, will proudly represent Charlton Kings Parish Council at this prestigious event, alongside our MP, Max Wilkinson.
