How we started
We employed a Community Development Researcher on a short-term contract, which was co-funded by the Parish Council and a grant from Gloucestershire's 'Growing our Communities' fund. Phase One of the project involved the research and mapping of existing support services/activities available locally in Charlton Kings and in the wider Cheltenham area. The information was put together as an online Directory for Social Prescribers working in the area, but also as an accessible hard copy full colour version for distribution across community hubs.
Whilst the research found a considerable number of support services and activities across Charlton Kings, a comprehensive report from the Community Development Researcher made recommendations for further service developments in the following areas, to build community resilience:
- Physical Health
- Mental Health
- Transport & Mobility
- Digital Inclusion
- Young People & Families
The project is now focused on working with our partners from the 'Core Group' in building on the recommendations arising out of the research report, starting with a community engagement exercise in understanding more about individual and collective experiences of the past 15 months in lockdown, due to Covid-19.
