Meet your Parish Councillors Monthly Drop-in - November

This month's drop-in is with Cllr Felicity Parnham (CK Futures Lead and Vice Chair of the Parish Council) and Cllr Jan Honeywill (Chair of the Parish Council). We hope that a day-time drop in might be helpful for residents who are unable to attend the Council Meetings in the evening or who prefer a more informal setting. Though the drop-in is loosely themed around CK Futures as Cllr Parnham is there to answer any related questions, our Cllrs are happy to talk about anything relating to the work of the Parish Council.

Cllrs Parnham and Honeywill will be available to talk from 10.30am - 12.00pm.

Sustainable Living Workshop - Food

Sustainable Living Workshop - Food

Wednesday 2nd November, 7.00 - 9.00pm

Join us for a nutritious meal at the Front Community Café in the second of this series of Sustainable Living workshops. We will eat and discuss the impact of our choice of food, both on the planet and on our health.

We will look at what we eat, how our food is grown and what impact food production (and waste) has on the environment.

How much difference does vegetarianism/veganism make? Is organic and free-range better? Is it always best to buy locally produced?

We will share practical tips on reducing food waste and recipe ideas for lower impact eating.

Come and enjoy some delicious food and share your experiences, favourite dishes, and thoughts about how we can eat well and sustainably.

There is no charge for these workshops but a donation of £10 per person is suggested for this Food workshop to cover the cost of the meal provided. The meal with be plant-based and attendees should inform the hosts on arrival of any allergies.

CANCELLED - next Police Bus in November

The Police are one of the partners of the Parish Council and share our aims of making Charlton Kings a safe place to live and work.

The Police will be on Church Piece outside the Kings Hall, one day a month with their Police Engagement Vehicle.

This provides a visible presence and a drop-in opportunity for anyone to come and speak to the Police with questions or concerns.

Tree Poetry Workshop and Open Mic with Poet and Storyteller Tom Hirons

Part of Charlton Kings Parish Council's Celebration of Trees

In this free workshop, Tom will be leading writers through a process to uncover an authentic voice for writing about nature and the wilds, using prompts and conversation, and exploring how we might reimagine the role of the ' nature poet' in our community and culture. In addition, he'll be sharing some of his work and hosting an open-mic event.

The workshop and open mic will run from 7pm until 9.30pm on Sunday 27th November in the Stanton Hall (next to the Charlton Kings Library), Charlton Kings. For the open mic element (after the workshop) attendees are welcome to read work created during the workshop, some of their own poems, or poems by other writers, around the theme of trees.

This is a free event hosted by CK Futures, a Charlton Kings Parish Council Initiative. Donations to the Woodland Trust or Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust are most welcome.
