The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee - Plant an Oak Tree
In 2022 the nation will celebrate the Queen's 70th Anniversary as monarch, the first time any British monarch has reached this historic milestone. Celebrations will be held throughout the year, focusing on a four-day Bank Holiday weekend from Thursday 2nd - Sunday 5th June. The event will reflect on her Majesty's reign, and her impact on the U.K. and the world since 1952.
To mark the event, The Honourable Company of Gloucestershire is offering Town Councils, Parish Councils and Parish Meetings two English Oak Trees. The only condition is that the recipient Council has a suitable location and is willing to follow the guidelines, so that they grow to maturity for the enjoyment of future generations.
Charlton Kings Parish Council has applied to participate in the scheme as part of a programme of Parish-wide activities and events to celebrate the Jubilee.
Following consultation with the Council Tree Officer, Newcourt Green has been identified as a suitable location. The Green already a good variety of native species and they will complement the recently planted new coppice. Before finalising its decision, the Council is offering the opportunity for residents to suggest suitable alternative locations, which will enhance the Parish for future generations as well as mark the event. It is also keen to involve local Schools in planting and looking after the trees as they grow to maturity.
If you have a suggestion about where to locate a tree, either on Parish or public ground or on the corner of farmland or private property within the Parish; or if your School would like to participate in planting and looking after a tree, please contact the Community Development Officer on community@charltonkingsparishcouncil.gov.uk
