Sowing Wildflowers Seeds in QE2 Park
This September, the Friends of QEII Park teamed up with CBC's Green Parks Team to give the park's wildflower meadow a big boost!
On 10th September, areas of grass were cut and cleared, and just two days later, the ground was raked and sown with around 25kg of locally gathered wildflower seeds – including yarrow, bedstraw, yellow rattle, knapweed, scabious, and more. Some even came from Pittville Park, thanks to QEII Friends!
These seeds should burst into bloom next spring, creating a haven for pollinators and a seed source for other parks in the years ahead.
Huge thanks to Parish Councillor Tim Gilbert and everyone who volunteered and took part — your time and effort will help the park thrive for years to come.
This work forms part of CBC's wider strategy to improve biodiversity across the town's parks – and we can't wait to see the results!
